Cartoonist Langkawit became active in the field of Sabah Cartoon since the early 1990’s. His cartoons were published in some local newspaper. This was dawn of his cartoons in the newspapers. His work was in ‘Bahasa Dusun’ the local Sabah language which features the stories of everyday life of the village and the people of Sabah. Overwhelming responses from readers has encourage cartoonist Langkawit to publish more cartoons. In 1995, he published a collection of his cartoon series in ‘Bahasa Dusun’ title “KALABATU”.
With such good responses, , he even published a series of cartoons in Bahasa Sabah (a local version to the Bahasa Melayu) in 1996. Langkawit, has published Kalabatu cartoon series from Vol.1 to Vol.5. Followed by the Kalabatu cartoon series in Bahasa Sabah version, with a total of 10 series collection.
Cartoonist Langkawit or his real name, David Buku Sooning @ Suning, is from Kg.Kinasaraban, Kota Belud, born on the 22 April 1966 and was the 4th child of 7 siblings. He was raised in a very poor family of farmers. He lived in a remote village and rarely mix with modern society, to a certain extent affect his childhood. He was shy and humble. However, the reclusive life he lead has helped him to be more inspirational to pursue his dreams and to try something which he has not done before.
He migrated to Kota Kinabalu City in 1983, a year after completing final year in high school, to find better opportunities … and this is where it all began ……… ,
